Jimmy Edsel Hiers

Jimmy Edsel Hiers, 81, of Mershon, passed away Thursday evening, March 9, 2023, at the Bacon County Hospital in Alma.

Born in Waycross October 1, 1941, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. He was retired from Douglas Asphalt where he had been a construction supervisor. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and was a long-time member of the Pierce County Fox Hunters Association.  He enjoyed fishing, planting a garden every year and cooking. He loved to read his Bible and attending church – Walkerville Baptist Church. His family and friends meant the world to him and he enjoyed spending time with them all.

He was a son of the late Alton Clyde and Ella Mae Davis Hiers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Lee Andrew Hiers; a great-grandson, Hunter Starling and four brothers, Arlon Hiers, Kenneth Hiers, Billy Hiers and Alton “JR” Worton.

Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimbo and Cheryl Hiers, Mershon and Robbie and Angie Hiers, Dixie Union; two brothers, Wallace Hiers, Bristol and Roger (Cathy) Worton, Starke, FL; two sisters-in-law, Willene Hiers, Blackshear and Sandra Hiers, Waycross; eight grandchildren, Heather (Albert) Starling, Summer Hiers, Brandon (Kelcey) Maxwell, Lacey Hiers, Greg (Linzy) Leggett, Robbie Hiers, Emily (Shane) Carter and Erin (Jordan) Cason; 24 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Linda Bennett, Mershon and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, from the Walkerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Carter and the Rev. Buddy Griner officiating.

Interment will be in the Ramah Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Walkerville Baptist Church Building Fund, 3000 Walkerville Road, Blackshear, GA  31516.
