End of School Bash celebration a success

NAHUNTA — Citizens of Brantley County came out for a good time to celebrate the end of another school year at the 5th Annual End of School Bash at Nahunta City Hall Saturday.

There were bounce houses, water slides, a foam party as well as hot dogs, chips and drinks all on display for everyone who came out to celebrate.

City Manager Tom Wirth said the City wanted to do something for the kids as they approach summer vacation.

“We just wanted to do something for the children,” Wirth said. “A couple of members of the council brought up the idea and we worked as a team to make it happen.”

Councilwoman Crystal Johns was grateful for those who attended and hoped they embraced the event with a lot of enthusiasm.

“It’s been a great turnout,” Johns said of the May 17 event. “I hope the people know how much we appreciate them and that we love to give back.”

Mayor Marty Lee summed up his feelings about the bash by stating that it boils down to acknowledging the amount of pride and dignity the Council has for the City.

“It’s all about the kids and the community,” said Mayor Lee.

Donors for the bash included H&S, Mrs. W. Strickland, Satilla Forest Services, Inc., BTC, Statewide Engineering, Inc., G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers, Southeastern Bank, Hendrix Heating & Cooling, Harry James of GA Power, OM Food Mart, Coca Cola, The Brantley Beacon and Pepsi.

Participants included the Brantley County Head Start, the Brantley County Cheerleaders, Luther Hiers of the Georgia State Patrol, First Baptist Church of Nahunta, the Masonic Lodge, Ryan Elson of Comcast, the FCCLA of Brantley County High School and all of the fire departments.
