At #2 Doubles Grayson Rodgers and Garrett Page snagged another win for Pierce (6-1, 6-1).

Thursday, Mar. 2 PCHS went to court against Brantley and were faced and struggled against strong performances from the opposing team.

Brantley fought hard against the Lady Bears, resulting in losses for Grace Christoper (#1 Singles, 2-6, 2-6) and Rebecca Tyre (#2 Singles, 5-7, 2-6).

Things looked better for Marli Walker at #3 Singles.

Walker won her first set 6-3, but Brantley’s Summer Colley came back in set two with a 5-7 win.

Walker and Colley reached a 6-6 score in the third set, and unfortunately Walker lost the seven point tiebreaker 6-8.

Fortune favored the Lady Bears’ Doubles teams a little better.

At #1 Doubles Taylor Sikes and Maura Kate Waters secured a smooth victory (6-2, 6-0).

Brantley forfeited the #2 Doubles match due to injury, granting Mattie Lee and Jasmoine Sergent the win.

For the men it was an uphill battle.

At #1 Singles Jeb Bradley  lost 1-6, 0-6.

At #2 Singles J.C. Nimmer powered through a grueling, 180 minute face-off with his Brantley opponent. After a 6-7 first set loss, things began to look up when Nimmer won set two 6-4. A heartbreaking 3-6 third set loss brought the match to a close.

Things were not much better for at #3 Singles for Aeden Carlson (1-6, 5-7).

#1 Doubles team Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson  faced brutal opposition (1-6, 0-6).

#2 Doubles pairing Grayson Rodgers and Garrett Page were hit just as hard (0-6, 0-6).

“(It was) not a good day for Boys tennis. We knew (Brantley) would be tough to beat and they definitely proved that. (I’m) proud of my boys for hanging in there and not giving up, especially J.C. with his 3 hour match,” said Head Boys Coach Lori Marx.

Next up for PCHS tennis is a home match against Savannah Arts (Thursday, Mar. 9).
