Nahunta sets new fees

NAHUNTA — City of Nahunta officials adopted modified fees for water/sewer services along with new permit fees and business license fees during their monthly May meeting.

Mayor Pro-tem Bruce Davis made the motion to approve the new schedule of fees during the Monday, May 5 meeting. Councilman Andrew Altman seconded the motion, which was passed by a 4-0 vote.

Residents with a late fee will be charged 10 percent of the bill. There is a $50 reconnection fee from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and $75 after 3:30 p.m. Residents will be charged a returned check fee of $35.

There is a $100 service deposit for water and a $100 service deposit for sewer. The charge for a water tap is $1,000 and $1,000 for the sewer.

Water tap-in fees are now $1,000 for three-quarters of an inch, $1,250 for oneinch and $2,000 for two-inch.

The water meter charge tap in is $400 for 3/4-inch, $1,200 for one-inch and $2,300 for two-inch. Anything over a two-inch tap-in will be charged at the cost of the contractor.

For sewer tap-in fees, four inches will be $1,000. Six inches or greater will be the cost of the contractor.

Permits

For residential living structure fees, building/inspection permits including residential areas will be $600 which will include up to four building inspector visits.

Mobile homes, which will include required registration decal as per City Ordinance 42-103, will be $400.

For a commercial building, the price will be $1,600, which will include up to six building inspector visits.

Fees for a 60-day permit for decks and porches will be $250. Exterior appurtenances such as sheds, unfinished garages and carports with a 60-day permit will be $250.

An electrical permit for residential only is $200. An electrical permit for commercial is now $400.

For re-inspection/additional inspection fees, the first re-inspection or additional reinspection is $100. A second is now $150 and a third or more is $200.

For replacement permit fees, the prices for a renewal or expired is $100 and replacement on a mobile home registration decal, which will be yearly, is $100.

GEFA Grant Vac System

The council approved the $79,017 purchase of a Vac System for the Sewer Department through a GEFA (Georgia Environmental Finance Authority) Grant.

The council, which received two bids, chose the Vac System with a 24horse power Kohler Diesel engine with Vermeer Southeast out of Richmond Hill. The City will be reimbursed $50,000 by the GEFA Grant.

Councilman Andrew Altman made the motion with Councilwoman Deloise Anderson seconded the motion, which carried 4-0.

The other bid, from Vermeer Southeast, was for $75,240 with a 38horse power Kohler Gas engine.

The vacuum sewer system uses vacuum technology to transport wastewater from homes and businesses to a central location for treatment.

Using a vacuum sewer system offers numerous cost-saving advantages for municipalities and communities. Lower installation costs, reduced maintenance expenses, efficient water usage and flexibility are the reason why a vacuum sewer system is the best option when it comes to wastewater management.

RFPs for Sanitation The council tabled a decision on the Request for Proposals (RFPs) concerning the Sanitation services.

The received RFPs were presented to the mayor and council. After inspecting the proposals, it was the consensus of the all to wait for a decision at a future meeting.

Department Reports Police Chief Brad Todd gave the April monthly report to the council The Nahunta Police Department responded to 247 E911 calls, made 177 traffic stops, issued 86 citations, gave 91 warnings, filed 10 incident reports, filed five accident reports, made six arrests and took out five warrants.

The Public Works Department worked 621 orders. Public Works Supervisor Jeremy Ryan, who gave the monthly report, introduced Dwayne Caine and Ryan Sikes as part-time workers.

City Clerk Angie Wirth reminded everyone of the Saturday, May 17 Back to School Bash around City Hall.

The next City Council meeting is Monday, June 2 at 7 p.m.
