The Pierce County Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 70th annual gala Thursday, April 24.

The event, Blue & Platinum, A Legacy of 70 Years, was held from 6-9 p.m. that evening at the Okefenokee Country Club Food was prepared by the country club, Southbound Events was on hand to capture the fun with a 360 degree photo booth, and The Little Satilla Band played “groovy tunes” from the 1970.

Those who attend were decked out in their most glamorous and groovy 1970s attire.

Pierce County’s many community award recipients were also recognized during the gala. The winners were announced at a press conference at the train depot April 3, but received their award trophy at the gala event.

Those honored included the late Blackshear Assistant Fire Chief Leon Davis as citizen of the year, Mossy Pond Lodge as business of the year (accepted by Hannah Grant), Chairman Neal Bennett as the S. Dow Nimmer Jr. Award recipient, Rhonda Melton Bennett as the Huel P. Walker Educator of the Year award recipient, Southeast Georgia Women’s Center as the Dr. Katherine Hendry Community Health Award winner, Pastor Justin Gambrell as the Leona Dixon Bright Spot Award, Ed Barber and Sons as Farmer of the Year, Julie Griner as the Love Like Lanna Award recipient, Zach Lee of Zach and Isabelle’s as the Better Hometown Bravo to Business Award recipient and Billy Cochran and Ace Farmers and Builders for the years of service award.

Stacey Thrift of Hospice Satilla accepted the Community Health Award on behalf of the Southeast Georgia Women’s Center.
