John Edward Walsh

John Edward Walsh, 59, beloved resident of Harborview - Pierce County Nursing Home, passed away Saturday morning, August 12, 2023.

Born in Fitzgerald October 25, 1963, he lived most of his life in Pierce County.  He was a member of the last graduating class of Blackshear High School in 1981.  Always full of life, he was well loved by everyone, especially the staff and residents at Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home, where he was bestowed the title of the longest living resident. An avid fan of NASCAR and football, you could always find him cheering on his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved everyone, but most important to him was his family.

He was a son of the late Lewis Edward Walsh. He was also preceded in death by a niece, Candice Walsh.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Jean Dowdy Walsh, Blackshear; one brother, David Walsh, Clearwater, FL; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wendy (Tommy) Kicklighter and Holly (John) James, all of Blackshear; nieces and nephews, Aubree Walsh, Alie Johnson, Bree Thrift, Kole Kicklighter, Kamden Kicklighter, Kingston Kicklighter, Logan Larson, John Benjamin James, and Pennie Johnson and numerous other relatives.

The family invites everyone to join them in celebrating John’s life beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, August 14, at First Baptist Church.  

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 14, from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young and Pastor Tony Walsh officiating. Becky Bradley, Director of Nursing at Harborview - Pierce County Nursing Home, will be giving the nursing home family tribute.

The family kindly requests the members of the Blackshear High School class of 1981, as well as the staff of Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home to serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the church by 5 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the John Edward Walsh Memorial Fund at Primesouth Bank.
