BCHS netters steamroll into second round

Lady Herons beat Dublin, Thomasville visits next; Herons blank Coosa, face Commerce

CANEY BAY — Brantley County’s top-seeded tennis programs easily advanced to the second round of the Class A Division I tournament with home wins.

The Region 1 champion Lady Herons (18-5) handed visiting 32nd-seed Dublin (6-11) a 5-0 setback Tuesday, April 22.

Brantley County will host regionmate Thomasville (11-6), seeded 16th, in the second round. The Lady Bulldogs slipped past 17th-ranked Gordon-Lee (9-6) 3-2 Thursday, April 24.

Other Region 1 members advancing were seventh-seed Jeff Davis over 26th-seed Jasper County 4-0, 12th-seed Berrien with a 5-0 win against 21stseed Chatooga and 18thseed Bacon County over 3-0 over 15th-seed East Laurens. Worth County seeded 24th, fell 4-0 at ninth-seed Commerce.

Jeff Davis is hosting 23rd-seed Vidalia, Berrien is hosting 28th-seed Swainsbor0, a 3-2 winner of fifth-seed Lamar County and Bacon County travels to No. 2 seed Bleckley County in second round matchups.

The Herons (22-2), also Region 1 champions, blanked 32nd-seed Coosa (3-9) 3-0 Wednesday, April 23.

BCHS will entertain 17th-seed Commerce (9-6) in Round 2. The Tigers blanked 16th-seed Berrien (11-10) of Region 1 3-0.

Bacon County, a 14 seed, beat 19th-seed Worth County 3-1 in a region matchup and sixthseed Jeff Davis downed 27th-seed Fitzgerald 3-0 in another region matchup. Thomasville, seeded 21st, fell 4-1 at 12th-seed Bremen.

Bacon County visits third-seed Bleckley County and Jeff Davis will host 22nd-seed Temple in the second round.

Brantley County lost one game in knocking of the Lady Irish.

Brooklyn Wildes beat Zykeria Johnson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while No. 2 Raylee Strickland and No. 3 Haley Jane Smith each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories over Tameyiah Davis and Celeana Wiggins respectively.

Both doubles matches ended with 6-0, 6-0 decisions. The No. 1 tandem of Summer Colley and Bri Crews turned back Kendall Chapman and Journi Bostice with the No. 2 duo of Harlee Driggers and Savannah Carroll winning against E’maria Scruggs and Breanna Binns.

The Herons posted three 6-0, 6-0 victories and had dropped just one game in each of the other two matches halfway through the second set when play was halted.

Patrick O’Quinn blanked Asa Serapion at No. 2 singles. Rohan Davis (No. 1) and Owen Spradley (No. 3) were each leading 6-1, 3-0 against Gavin Holt and Jackson Fowler when their matches were called.

Tucker O’Quinn and Jayce Chapman blanked Mason Holbrook and Gunner Shenkel at No. 1 doubles with Even Payne and Jeff Florey doing likewise at No. 2 against anthony Martinez and Gavin Green.
