Rosie Elizabeth Carnes Tillman, 99, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday evening, August 24, 2023, at her residence.
Born in Tiger May 1, 1924, she lived in Pierce County most of her life. She retired from United Egg. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting and riding the lawn mower. In her later years she loved going out to eat, especially to Jerry J’s in Blackshear where she was known to every employee as “Granny”. She always found a way to make everyone smile when she walked into the restaurant. She was of the Pentecostal Faith.
She was a daughter of the late Caney Silvester and Lavonia Azalee Lovell Carnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Arvil Tillman; a son, William Arvil Tillman Jr.; both of her sisters, Ruby Wasdin and Rachel Hyers and all of her brothers, Doc Carnes, Dave Carnes, Sam Carnes, Tom Carnes, Bard Carnes, Mark Carnes and Mack Carnes.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte Thrift and Carolyn and Stanley Blalock, all of Blackshear; a son and daughters-in-law, Dennis Lowell (Linda) Tillman, Clarksville TN and Pat Tillman, Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Brenda (David) Cash, Lynn Thrift, Kelly (Rodney) Bowen, Jean (David) Allday, Susanne Thrift, Elizabeth (Ron) Thornton, Vicki (Allen) Jeffords and Selena (Archie) Bennett.; 14 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, August 28, at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 28, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
