Pierce recreation department has three qualify for state track

The Pierce County Recreation Department qualified three thinclads for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Class B state finals.

Patterson Elementary School’s Brooke Pruitt captured the 8-under age division Girls’ Standing Long Jump with a leap of 5-feet-8 winning by six inches to advance to the Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 finals at East Jackson High School in Commerce.

Midway Elementary School’s Ava Slusher took home top honors in the 10-under age division for the Girls’ Softball Throw with a toss of 98’2” winning by 11’4”.

Pierce County Middle School’s Dathan Thomas qualified in two events. Thomas won the 14U Boys’ Discus with a throw of 103’10”. He finished second in the 14U Boys’ Shotput with a heave of 37’.

The Camden County Recreation Department easily swept the girls’ and boys’ titles during the Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 meet with Pierce County placing 10th in the 11-county event.

Only the top two finishes in each age division qualified for the state finals.

Girls’ 8U results

Braelynn Johns (40.02 seconds) placed fifth in the 200meter run. She finished 11th (9.68 sec.) in the 50m and eighth in the broad jump (6’9”).

Boys’ 8U results

Jude Coggin (3:42) finished seventh in the 800m and 10th in the 400m (1:39.13) Girls’ 10U results

Slusher (40’) finished sixth in the javelin and 18th in the 50m (9.73 sec.).

Layla Sullivan (4:06.28) placed ninth in the 800m and 11th in the 400m (1:43.38).

Boys’ 10U results

Bentley Lee finished ninth in the 400m (1:34.89) and 11th in the 800m (3:39.37).

Girls’ 12U results

Lilly Bennett finished ninth in the standing long (5’11”), 14th in the 400m (1:26.45) and 20th in the 200m (37.28 sec.).

Khlare Hewatt placed eighth in the 800m (3:27.04) and 17th in the 400m (1:36.73).

Boys’ 12U results

Pierce County was fifth in both the 12U 4x100-meter relay and 4x400m relay events. The 4x100m relay team (Cam Yeomans, Jermaine Henderson, Kade Bliton, Paxton Cochran) posted a time of 1:08.83 while the 4x400m relay team (Yeomans, Henderson, Johnny Pena, Cochran) finished with a time of 5:21.70.

Henderson finished fourth in the high jump (3’10”), eighth in the long jump (12’2”) and 16th in the 100m (15.83 sec.).

Yeomans placed fourth in the 1,600m (6:28.84) and 10th in the 800m (3:09.60).

Cochran was also fourth in the 400m (1:10.58), seventh in the 800m (2:57.46) and 10th in the long jump (11’9”).

Jackson Morris placed eighth in the 1,600m (7:05.01) and 17th in the 200m (38.89 sec.)

Cochran (1:10.58) was also fourth in the 400m with Bliton (1:35.25) finishing 19th.

Bliton was 13th in the softball throw (95’5”) and 18th in the 200m (40.20 sec.).

Boys’ 14U results

Jeremiah Henderson placed 15th in both the 100m (16.70 sec.) and long jump (9’6”).
