Richard Wayne Hagen and Dorothy Jean Shuman Hagen EVANS, Ga. — Richard Wayne Hagen, 85 of Evans, Ga., passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2025.

Hagen was born May 19, 1939, in Waycross to James Kice Hagen and Nellie Thelma Whitehead Hagen.

Dorothy Jean Shuman Hagen, 83 of Evans, passed away peacefully Monday, April 14, 2025.

She was born November 30, 1941, in Brantley County to Elbert Shuman and Cleo Pauline Wainright Shuman.

The Hagens were married January 6, 1963. They lived most of their adult lives in Waycross and Brantley County before moving to Evans in 2014 to be closer to grand and great granddaughters.

The Hagens were members of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken and Warren Baptist Church in Evans, actively participating in adult Bible study groups.

They epitomized devotion to each other, their family and their church. The Hagens were dedicated parents, caring grandparents and doting great grandparents, instilling love and devotion to all.

Dick Hagen was a great athlete excelling in golf and baseball, attaining major league status. With his entrepreneur spirit, he explored several local business ventures before retiring from the Georgia Correctional System where he was an athletic coordinator.

Mrs. Hagen was a career employee with CSX Transportation before retiring in 2002.

The Hagens are survived by a daughter, Angela Gaye Waters of Evans; son Richard (Rick) Wayne Hagen, Jr. of Nahunta; Mary Ellen Usry (sister of Dick) of Waycross; Ray Shuman (brother of Mrs. Hagen) of Brantley County; granddaughters, Amber Nicole Riner of Evans and Amanda Marie Waters of Evans; and great granddaughters, Hagen Grace Riner and Hunter Marie Riner of Evans.

A joint funeral service was held Friday, April 18 at Frye Funeral Home. A burial service followed immediately afterward at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Richard Thomas, Terry Hagin, Lamont Mobley, Michael Mobley, Tommy Usry and Chris Usry.
