Lady Herons, Herons are Class A DI top seeds after sweeping region titles

VALDOSTA — Brantley County’s dominance on the tennis courts continued last week with the Lady Herons (top photo), winners of the 2024 Class AA state title, capturing the Region 1A DI title Wednesday, April 16 here at McKey Park for their fifth title since 2017. They beat Jeff Davis in the finals. The Herons (bottom photo) picked up their fifth consecutive region title Tuesday, April 15 and 12th in the past 15 seasons turning back Jeff Davis. Both teams earned top seeds in their respective state tournaments and would host through to the semifinals. The finals are set for Saturday, May 10 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. For more on the tournaments turn to Page 6 for the brackets. The Lady Herons, coached by Patrick Stieve, Dalton Lairsey and Kate Melvin, consists of seniors Brooklyn Wildes, Raylee Strickland and Summer Colley; juniors Kaleigh Oakie and Jacie Riggins; sophomores Bri Crews, Harlee Driggers, Cheryl Tencza and Savannah Carroll; and freshmen Haley Jone Smith and Brodie Allen. The Herons consists of seniors Tucker O’Quinn, Patrick O’Quinn, Rohan Davis and Dalton Howell; juniors Jayce Chapman, Jeff Florey, Ryan Saunders and Yog Patel; sophomores Owen Spradley, Evan Payne, Autry Johns and Zary Harris; and freshmen Miles Florey, Layton Myers and Andrew Stanley.
