Debra Williamson to be interim E-911 director

Debra Williamson has been appointed as the interim director of the newly created E-911 Center Department in county government.

Williamson was appointed to the job during a called county commission meeting last Thursday morning.

Williamson’s appointment was not unanimous and was approved on a 3-1 vote. County chairman Neal Bennett voted against the motion. First district commissioner Harold Rozier Jr. was not present for the meeting. Efforts to reach Chairman Bennett for comment on his no vote were unsuccessful.

The appointment came after a 20 minute closed session to discuss personnel.

Commissioners voted earlier in Thursday’s called meeting to create a new E-911 center department and remove it from the control of the sheriff’s office. (See related story.) Both the creation of the new department and the closed session were added to the agenda at the meeting.

Williamson is a veteran of the 911 center and is a senior communications officer with the department.
