NAHUNTA — The City of Nahunta approved amending its code to include fees for municipal court during its April monthly meeting.
Amended during the Monday, April 7 meeting was Section 5113 to include an administrative fee, failure to appear fee and technology fee after a second reading. The amended version was read during the Monday, March council meeting.
* The administrative fee of $50 shall be added to the total fine for each citation issued by the City of Nahunta Police Department. This fee shall cover the administrative costs associated with the issuance and processing of the citation.
The total amount due, including both the fine and administrative fee, must be paid within thirty (30) days, unless such time is extended by the municipal court judge, to avoid additional penalties. The fee shall be non-refundable unless the citation is dismissed.
* For any person who fails to appear in court on the date and time noticed on the citation or other notice provided by the court, a Failure to Appear (FTA) fee in the amount of $150 will be added to the original fine amount due. The total amount of the original fine and any FTA fee must be paid within thirty (30) days, unless such time is extended by the municipal court judge, to avoid further penalties, including but not limited to, additional fines, contempt fees, license suspension, or bench warrant.
Any person who, because of an emergency or other valid reason, is unable to appear in court on the date and time noticed on the citation or other notice provided by the court should contact the municipal court clerk in advance and request an extension of time before the court date.
‡ A non-refundable technology fee of $35 shall be imposed upon each violation of any ordinance of the City or any law of the State of Georgia prosecuted in the municipal court. This fee shall be in addition to any other surcharges, fees or fines imposed because of such violation.
• Nahunta Police Department: Police Chief Brad Todd gave the monthly report for March 2025.
There were 288 E911 calls, 184 traffic stops, 72 citations issued, 112 warnings issued, 12 incident reports filed, seven accident reports filed, seven arrests made and seven warrants taken out.
• Public Works: Jeremy Ryan stated there were 523 work orders for the month of March.
Jeremy Ryan had 218, Johnny Herrin 156, Dylan Hodges 130, William Reynolds 80 and Tom Wirth 68.
City Clerk Angela Wirth reported the council has set a budget meeting for Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.
She also said the End of School Bash will be Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include water slides, bounces houses, a train, a foam party, a DJ, and Coke and Pepsi wagons. The council has raised $3900 for the event.
The next City Council meeting is scheduled Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m.
