Tri Scape of Cumming will be the new contractor for mowing the county’s highway rights-of-way and will also provide litter pickup for a total of $97,436.22 per year.
Commissioners approved Tri Scape as the new contractor during their regular meeting last Tuesday night.
Four companies bid on the work giving a price for both right-of-way mowing and for right-of way mowing with litter pick up. The county opted to go with the litter pick up option.
Other bidders were 4G Property of Swainsboro at $135,203.25, Servus Land Management of Collins at $142,800 and S&W Farms of Odum at $216.325.
Third district commissioner Randy Dixon expressed concern Tri Scape would not be able to do the job for the amount they bid, but made the motion to award it to the company anyway.
First district commissioner Troy Mattox said the county could try Tri Scape and see what kind of service they offer for the amount they have bid.
According to the contract, the mowings are to be done three times per year in June, August and October and are to cover the area from the road shoulder to the edge of the county’s rights-of-way. The county also added the litter pick up requirement for the new contract.
Commissioners advertised for bids on the contract last month.
The county’s current contractor, K&A Mowing of Blackshear, did not bid on the project.
Dixon and some citizens have complained over the last year, saying that K&A Mowing was not fulfilling the terms of the contract.
K&A was paid $74,400 per year for mowing of the county’s approximately 420 miles of rights-of-way. The company is owned by Andy Rozier of Blackshear.
