PCMS captures second straight conference weightlifting title

Pierce County Middle School’s weightlifting team successfully defended its Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference 2024 title, the first in program history, with a repeat performance.

The Bears’ 60 points topped the field. Ware County Middle School finished runner-up for a second straight year with 37 points.

The Gators were followed by Long County Middle School (37), Bethune Middle School (9) and Brantley County Middle School (2).

“I am extremely proud of all the hard work these guys have put in working in the weight room,” said head coach Shannon Batten.

Pierce Middle’s Ja´Shun Fasion was captured the Pound for Pound Lifter Award while winning the 190-pound weight class. Fasion benched 245 lbs. and power cleaned 255 lbs. for a combined weight of 500 lbs.

Teammate Houston Davis, the 215.-lb. weight class champion, topped the competition in the Combined Weight category with 505 lbs. Davis benched 280 lbs. and power cleaned 225.

PCMS lifters captured eight of the 16 weight classes. The Bears had six runner-ups and two place third Individual winners were Griff Boyett (70 lbs.), Miles Pitts (90), Conner Thrift (130), James Still (150), Lawton Wright (170), Fasion (190), Chael Harris (200 lbs.) and Houston Davis (215).

Placing second were Matthew Herring (80), Cannon Braddy (100), Grayson Raulerson (110), Will Higginson (140), Noah Cochran (160) and Brycen Pierce (216+).

Finishing third were Sebastian Lacot (120) and Shevy Sapp (180).
