Bobby Wright turning business over to his son, Blake, after 45 years in lawn service
Wright Outdoors, owned and operated by Bobby Wright, has been offering landscaping services to Southeast Georgia since the 1980’s.
This year, Wright will retire after 45 years of running his successful landscaping business. He plans to turn the operation over to his 41-year-old son, Blake Wright.
The lawn care business offers more than just landscaping. Wright Outdoors offers lawn maintenance, irrigation, landscape lighting and hardscape, which includes outdoor living spaces, outdoor kitchens, patios and fire pits.
Some of the services they offer may be discontinued once the business is turned over to his son.
How the business got its start The business idea, according to Bobby, all started with a seasonal job at A & B Plants. The business was operated by Bob Wright, Bobby’s dad, and Ashley Matthews.
A & B Plants, a nursery which sold plants and bare rooted trees, hired Bobby during the winter to install landscaping for the plants they sold. He also planted some pecan orchards in the late 70’s, early 80’s.

That’s how the landscaping side of his business started.
The lawn maintenance side of the business started with Bobby working at a local bank in Waycross. The lawn maintenance company quit, so he went to the president of the bank and asked if he could do the mowing and maintenance for the bank.
Bobby said people would stop him and ask if he could take a look at their yards.
“So that’s how the lawn maintenance side of the company started,” says Bobby.
It’s a family business His son, Blake, has been with the company for 26 years, managing the lawn maintenance out of the company “for a number of years”, according to Bobby.
“I’m just stepping away. He’s not really stepping in because he’s already here,” Bobby said.
It isn’t just Bobby and Blake who have run the business over the decades.Bobby gives his wife, Phoebe, credit for the landscape designing of the company for the past 20 years.
