One man from Georgia and another from Alabama perished in an accident involving three semi trucks last month on Georgia 520, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Killed in the 6:34 a.m., March 27, chain-reaction wreck were Cedric Artemas Jimmerson, 41, of Leesburg, Ga., and Timothy Garrett Duncan, 36, of Vernon, Ala. The driver of the third truck, Frederick Bernard Allen, 52, of Cuthbert, Ga., was not injured.
Jimmerson and Duncan were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near the intersection of Georgia 520 and Zion Hill Road, Ware County Coroner David Jordan said.
James Roberts, of Willicoochee, Ga., witnessed the incident and provided information to authorities, according to the GSP accident report.
The trucks driven by Allen and Duncan were facing east in the right lane and stopped behind a Ware County school bus loading children, according to the accident report of GSP Trooper Gentry Mattox. The semi driven by Jimmerson was traveling east and hit Duncan’s truck from behind setting off the chain reaction.
Jimmerson, driving a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia 125 for Florida Rock and Tank Lines of Jacksonville, Fla., failed to slow and stop for Duncan’s 2024 FHRT TR tractor-trailer owned by CMH Transport of Maryville, Tenn.
Jimmerson’s truck struck Duncan’s in the rear of the trailer with its front, pushing the stopped semi for 221 feet and into the right rear of Allen’s 2019 Kenworth.
After impact, the rear two vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest in the south shoulder of the roadway. Allen’s truck traveled east for 136 feet after the impact, coming to a controlled rest in the right lane.
Ware County EMS received a call for the wreck at 6:37 a.m., and was on the scene 14 minutes later, the report said.
The trucks driven by Jimmerson and Duncan sustained serious damage and were towed from the scene by Miller Tire Company. Allen’s truck was able to be driven away. His trailer was towed by Miller Tire, the report said.
The accident affected traffic well into the afternoon. Trooper Gentry Mattox was in charge of the investigation.
