Patricia Dubose was named the 2024 Conservationist of the Year Award during Saturday’s Satillariverkeeper 2025 Gala held at the Red River Estate.

President & CEO Mike Worley of the Georgia Wildlife Federation was the guest speaker. The Georgia Wildlife Federation originally formed in 1936.

Worley shared lots of fun facts on Georgia's wildlife, plants and insects. After speaking, he was asked of his thoughts about the possibility of the landfill coming right down the road from the Red River Estate by Wayne Morgan.

“You need to fight to keep it out,” said Worley, “if that is what we want. This is your community. Don’t give up! You are the ones that have to live here.”

Satillariverkeeper Shannon Gregory gave an update on how busy the of the Year.

Satillariverkeeper has been with accomplishments in 2024 such as 4,700 pounds of trash being removed from Satilla riverbeds. She also talked about the launching of a week-long celebration for Earth Day.

Over 100 quality tests across the entire watershed had been performed. There were 35 reports of pollution affecting the Satilla River investigated.

There were also three successful membership paddles and the debut of “Down the Drain” and an education lecture.

Since January 2025, Satillariverkeeper has investigated eight reports of see DUBOSE, Page x pollution affecting the Satilla River. Over 50 quality tests have been performced across the entire watershed.

More than over 100 tree samplings have been distributed in efforts to restore the hurricane-damaged canopy. Over 3,600 lbs. of trash has been collected from Satilla riverbeds. “Macro Madness” and debuted and along with an educational lecture.

A live raffle and silent auction was also held to help raise funds for the Satillariverkeeper.
