Sherry Thornton Wasdin, 73, of Patterson, died Thursday, June 29, 2023.
A native of Chicago, IL, she had lived most of her life in Wayne County and upon retirement moved to Appling County. She attended Screven First Baptist Church and retired as an administrative assistant from the Wayne County Board of Education. She enjoyed fishing and shopping in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dwayne Wasdin.
Survivors are two daughters, April (Ron) Regier, Escanaba, Michigan and Shay Wasdin, Patterson; a son, Jeremy (Shanda) Wasdin, Bristol; seven grandchildren, Ridge Purcell (fiancé, Mallory Duncan), Leslie Purcell, Jose Zarraga, Jesse Zarraga, J.J. Wasdin, MacKenzie Regier and Christian Regier; an expected great-grandson, Walker Ridge Purcell; two sisters, Dixie (Frank) Poppell of Colorado and Shellie Gay (Mitchell) Bohannon of South Carolina; a brother, Drew (Tina) Thornton, Jesup and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, from the Lake Chapel Cemetery near Patterson with Elder Jason Deal officiating.
Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
