Gwen Carolyn (Jacobs) Bohanon

HOBOKEN — Gwen Carolyn (Jacobs) Bohanon, 69 of Hoboken, passed Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Mrs. Bohanon was a beloved mother and Gigi who loved hard and took care of all those around her. She was the youngest of five children and lived up to being the baby of the family.

Mrs. Bohanon is preceded in death by her parents, Olen Lee Jacobs and Lois Carolyn Campbell Jacobs; her brother, Rony Jacobs and baby Kenny Jacobs; brother-in-law, Ron Baker; and a nephew, Daryl Jacobs.

She worked for Okefenokee Rural Electric for may years until she left in 2000. Mrs. Bohanon loved her job in billing and customer service and made many life-long friends while she was there.

Mrs. Bohanon also loved her church, Hoboken Baptist Church. While she sidestepped for a few years and joined Hickox

Bohanon

Baptist Church, Hoboken Baptist Church held her heart, and she was a faithful servant daily for them. She acted as Treasurer for many years and has been instrumental in making the Wednesday night Mission Meals happen.

Mrs. Bohanon has worked hard to go every week to buy groceries for the meals and to keep the gaggle of women who prepare the meals on task to be sure it was done correctly and to perfection. Her techniques were correct ... all others could just be tried out later in private.

She also made sure the shut-ins had a hot meal and delivered many herself so she could visit also. So, a task that might take some 30 minutes would possibly take her 2 hours to complete.

Mrs. Bohanon also worked hard to provide snacks for WMU and TNT and enjoyed her time with the Happy Hearts women. She took pride in being a helper.

Mrs. Bohanon was a faithful member of her Sunday School class and choir, and was there most Sunday mornings, evenings and Wednesdays. As they say, if the church doors were open (and sometimes when they weren’t) she was sure to be there.

Mrs. Bohanon also did a lot for her community. She was a faithful member of the Friends of the Library for Brantley County Library and also served as a Library Board Member on the Brantley County Library board and for the Three Rivers Regional Library Board. As a Friends of the Library member, she worked hard on their book sales and could be found most days of the sale working to earn money for the Library’s use.

She would also go to Hoboken Elementary School and practice reading with the students who needed extra practice.

Mrs. Bohanon was an avid Brantley County Herons basketball fan. If you couldn’t find her on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, she was typically traveling with friends to all the jayvee and varsity basketball games or cheering proudly in the Brantley County gym. Mrs. Bohanon would travel all over the state to watch them play and loved every minute of it.

She is survived by her daughter, Bridgett (Paul) Sheffield of Valdosta, and her grandson Gabriel (Gigi’s heart); her sister, Rita Baker of Warner Robins; brother, Gary (Freida) Jacobs of Waycross; and several other nieces, nephews, and close cousins and very close friends.

Love with all your heart and do good for others. That is what Mrs. Bohanon would want us all to take away from her life.

A funeral service was held Monday morning, April 7, 2025 at Hoboken Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Glosson officiating.

Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers wereJacob Baker, Noah Baker, Darrell Baker, Aaron Rentz, Ryan Saunders and Derek Jacobs.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoboken Baptist Church; Wednesday Missions Supper or Brantley County Friends of the Library.
