Lady Herons split final two matches Herons close with class-leading 19 wins
Brantley County’s Lady Herons closed out the regular season splitting its final two matches while earning the top spot in the latest GHSA Class A Division I public school power rankings.
Region champions are seeded one thru eight in the state tournament brackets with 24 teams earning at-large berths and seeded accordingly. Region 1 mates Berrien and Bacon County are currently ranked among the Top 16 teams.
The Lady Herons (15-5), who will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament, fell 3-2 to visiting Class 5A Statesboro Tuesday, April 1. The Lady Herons bounced back to beat Class 4A Ware County 4-1 on the road Wednesday, April 2. No results were received.
The region tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 in Valdosta at McKey Park. The Lady Herons open at 9:30 a.m., against fourth-seed Bacon County.
The finals and consolation match are scheduled for 1 p.m. Seedings for the state tournament will be released by Sunday, April 20.
The first round of the girls’ state tournament must be played by Thursday, April 24.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons swept the two singles matches in straight sets and lost the doubles match.
Haley Jane Smith blanked her foe 6-0, 6-0. Brodie Allen posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory. The doubles team of Breanna Gilder and Louna Zakaria fell 6-3, 7-6 (10-7).

CANEY BAY — The visiting Lady Blue Devils won two of the three singles matches and split in doubles to garner the victory.
Brooklyn Wildes picked the long singles victory at No. 1 rallying to beat Naomi Feltman in a three-set marathon 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 14-12. Rylee Strickland suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 2 to Maxius Feltman. Haley Jane Smith doublued up Ada Lacrnsic 6-3, 6-3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Summer Colley and Bri Crews dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Annalia Small and Lindsay Collins. The No. 2 tandem of Harlee Driggers and Savannah Carroll fell 6-2, 6-4 to Loralei Prosser and Nellie Watanobe.

The Herons (19-2), the Region 1-A top seed, blanked visiting Class 6A Richmond Hill 5-0 Thursday, March 27. They followed with a 4-1 victory over visiting Class 5A Statesboro Tuesday, April 1.
BCHS closed out the regular season a day later blanking Class 4A Ware County 5-0 on the road. No results were received.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County dominated the Wildcats with three second set scores ending with 6-0 scores.
Rohan Davis downed Dylan Fortner 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Patrick O’Quinn knocked off Josh Davis 7-6, 60 at No. 2. Owen Spradley logged a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Connor Hodgdon.
At No. 1 doubles, Tucker O’Quinn and Jayce Chapman posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Nick Daly and Ryan Bennett. The No. 2 team of Jeff Florey and Evane Payne recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Cedric Young and Bruno Okada.

CANEY BAY — The Herons won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and swept the doubles action to beat Statesboro.
Davis fell at No. 1 singles to Xavier Deckers 6-2, 6-3. Patrick O’Quinn needed a 10-point tie-breaker to beat Davis Hall 7-5, lost the second set, 10-2 at No. 2. Spradley blanked Tyler Blythe 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Tucker O’Quinn and Chapman rolled 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles over Asher Hodgen and Luke Watanobe. The team of Payne and Florey notched a 6-3, 6-4 decision against Sean Kim and Carter Copeland.
