Sheriff asks public for more tips in probe of Zirkle Road murder

It’s been almost a year since a Waycross man was found murdered near Zirkle in Pierce County and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is calling on the public for help.

“We have exhausted all of our tips and leads and we have, so far, been unable to solve the murder case,” said Sheriff Ramsey Bennett.

“We ask the public to help us by being our eyes and our ears. If you saw or heard something or know anything about the case — no matter how small it might be — please call us.”

Tips may be called in to the Pierce County Sheriff’s tip line at (912) 807-TIPS (8477) or by calling 911.

Dale Austin Duncan, 21, of Waycross was found dead on Zirkle Road in the eastern portion of the county Tuesday morning, August 10, 2022.

Duncan was found on timber company property off of Zirkle Road. The body was discovered in a wooded area near the road, but not close to the boat landing or the steel dam on the Little Satilla River there.

An autopsy was conducted by the Georgia State Crime Lab in Pooler. The sheriff said the State Medical Examiner’s Office has determined Duncan’s death was by homicide.

Duncan had earlier been reported missing from his home in Ware County.

Duncan was a life-long resident of Ware County and was a Bulldog fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Sheriff Bennett said the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Ware County Sheriff’s Office have worked leads in the 10 months since the murder, but those leads have not led to a resolution in the case.
