Survivors enjoy a day of pampering

‘Making Over Cancer’ comes to Blackshear

Smiles, laughter and most importantly — hope— filled The Banter venue last week at the first ever Making Over Cancer event.

Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross teamed up with Making Over Cancer and brought the event to The Banter in Blackshear.

Making Over Cancer, a 501c3 non-profit also known as Survivor Glam Squad, was formed in 2012 by Keely Webster and Jennifer Hagan. The organization aims to help cancer survivors rebuild their self-esteem through a confidence- boosting makeover experience while providing education and support that allows survivors to maintain their quality of life.

Their first makeover led to additional makeovers. The initiative soon expanded and became a national network of salons and professionals. Key partners such as the American Cancer Society, Disney, Paul Mitchell, Aveda and Peter Coppola sponsor the group.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Making Over Cancer team in bringing the Survivor Glam event to Southeast Georgia. This collaboration was immensely rewarding for Memorial Satilla,” said Dale Neely, chief executive officer of Memorial Satilla Health. “It allowed us to meaningfully engage with our community and demonstrate our unwavering support for our patients.
