Ware Sheriff’s Report

Possession of fentanyl , possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm or knife during certain crimes: A Waycross man was arrested on drug and weapons charges Thursday, March 27 as a the result of a person in distress at a work scene.

Arrested was Gregory A. Davis, 35, of a Cherry Drive address. He was charged with possession of fentanyl , possession of methamp hetamine, possession of a firearm or knife during certain crimes, all felonies.

Patrol Deputy Luis Moran responded at 8:35 a.m. to the 600 block of W. Wacona Drive for a man unconscious in a bucket truck. Ware County EMS already was on the scene.

Moran made contact with the subject who said he blacked out while he and co-workers were cutting on a tree. Moran talked with others on the scene and as a result of the investigation, Davis was charged with possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance that field tested positive for fentanyl, possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and the weapons violation.

• Felony theft: Patrol Deputy Corey Sparks took a report of a stolen firearm March 21 in the 800 block of Rabon Street between September 14, 2024 and March 21.

Sparks responded at 9:57 a.m. to the 1400 block of Myers Avenue and the victim stated a Masterpiece Arms, 9mm pistol had been stolen. Det. Kyle Strickland was assigned to follow-up.

Workplace accident: Patrol Deputy Savannah Leslie responded at 8:12 a.m., March 19 to Lamar Avenue and Stephens Street for a repoert of a pedestrian being injured by a forklift.

Upon arrival, Leslie found Steven Bethea, 59, of the 900 Block of K. Street, on the ground with a forklift against a nearby tree. Bethea said he was trying to adjust the seat on forklift and fell off.

The forklift continued and ran over his leg. Leslie also noticed a rash on his right rib cage, and Bethea complained of leg and ankle pain. He was transported by Ware EMS to Memorial Satilla Health for treatment.

Leslie noticed the forklift’s seat was not bolted down.

• DUI: A Tennessee man was charged with DUI Wednesday, March 26 after crashing the tractor- trailer he was driving into structures and a fence in the 3000 block of Memorial Drive.

Patrol Deputy Sparks responded about 1:13 p.m. to the scene to find Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Harold Cox handling the incident that led to the arrest of Elisha Charles Booker, 33, of an Oneida, Tenn., address for DUI.

Booker was driving a black, Freightliner semi north on Georgia 4 when the vehicle left the roadway to the right and hit the structures and fence before coming to rest in the grass at the Waycross Post of the Georgia State Patrol.

Booker told Cox he must have blacked out behind the wheel leading to the accident.

Booker was evaluated by Ware EMS, but refused to be transported to Memorial Satilla Health for treatment. Sparks observed Cox request Booker to undergo a field sobriety test, but the driver refused.

Booker was arrested by Cox and Sparks transported the driver to the Ware County Jail.
