Mark Deal, City Councilman for Blackshear’s District 6, will resign his seat after moving outside of the city.
City officials confirmed Deal will submit his resignation at Tuesday’s city council meeting (held after The Times’ deadline).
Deal has already made the change “Facebook official” with a post to social media about relocating his family to northern Pierce County, outside of the city limits.
According to the city charter, the current mayor and council can select someone to fill the seat if there is less than a year remaining on the term.
Deal was first elected in a special election last November to fill the approximate 15 months remaining on the term of former councilwoman Linda Gail Dennison. Dennison died in office last July. The term on the seat is set to expire December 31 of this year.
The seat will be up for election in this year’s municipal election.
Additional details will be included in the June 21 edition of The Times.
