Waycross has opened its spring cleanup program throughout the city.
A container will be placed for one week in each of the city’s five commission districts through May 5. The campaign began Monday at E.E. Moore Park in District 1.
Citizens don’t need to wait until their designated week to place household refuse in a container. The receptacle, regardless of location, will be open to any resident or property owner during the five weeks.
There is no limit on the number of times citizens can deposit items.
Some items are prohibited in the collection. Among those are tires, containers of paint, solvents, chemicals or pesticides, building materials, tree removal debris, bricks or blocks.
The city will continue its regular, weekly collection schedule for yard waste and household items during the fiveweek campaign. Household refuse requires a call to the public works department (912) 287-2955 to schedule a time for the pickup.
The rest of the cleanup schedule is:
• District 2: April 7-13, Elizabeth Park, Howe Street (container in park).
• District 3: April 14-20, Garlington Park, 1501 George Street (container in park).
• District 4: April 21-27, Monroe Park, 1121 Hill Street (container behind tennis courts).
• District 5: April 28-May 5, Oakland Cemetery, 2410 Alice Street (container near water tower).
Construction is taking place to upgrade park facilities and equipment in Elizabeth and Garlington so the container may move from day to day on the grounds.
