Lady Gators linksters play in 2 tourneys

Ware County’s Lady Gator golf team had a busy week participating in back-toback tournaments finishing with a dual match.

The Lady Gators opened the week playing Monday, March 24 in the Lady Viking Classic hosted by Lowndes High at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club where they finished ninth in the field of 21 teams.

Ware County finished in the middle of the nine-team Lady Wildcat Invitational at the Richmond Hill Golf Club with a fifth-place showing Tuesday, March 25.

The Lady Gators closed out the busy week with a nine-hole dual match in Kingsland at Laurel Island Links. Ware County shot 126 to beat the host Lady Wildcats of Camden County’s 137.

Lady Viking Classic

VALDOSTA — Class 6A Carrollton won the rain-soaked tournament in a playoff over the Class 6A Lady Vikings after both teams finished tied at 222.

Class 2A Pierce County was third with a 235. Rounding out the Top 10 were Class 6A Richmond Hill (241), Class 6A Tift County (242), Class 2A Morgan County (242), Class 4A Northside-Columbus 246, Class 6A Camden County (253), Ware County (261) and Class 3A LaGrange (277).

The rest of the field included Class 5A Coffee (283), Class 6A Colquitt County (283), Lowndes II (284), Class 5A Lee County (298), Class A DII Charlton County (300), Class A DI Berrien (304), Class 5A Thomas County Central (308) and Class 3A Bainbridge (309).

Scores for Carrollton II, Class 2A Cook and Class 6A Valdosta were not posted.

Lowndes’ Catherine Odom captured medalist honors in the field of 79 players in a playoff with Camden County’s Georgia Blount. The pair tied at four-underpar 68 on the 5,364-yard layout. Odom fired nine-hole scores of 37-31 with eight birdies including six on the back nine.

PCHS’s Mackenzie Connell shot 3635-71 with four birdies (three on front 9) to tie Carrollton’s Madi Simpson for third.

The Lady Bears’ Belle Sinclair posted 39-40-79 with a birdie on each side for a solo 16th-place finish.

Sisters Mollie Kate Dixon (40-45-85, birdie) and Brooke Dixon (44-41-85, birdie) finished in a four-way tie for 25th. They were joined by the Tift County duo of Mattie Hendrix and Riley Williams.

Chloe Lynn carded 46-44-90 for a solo 36th-place showing.

Ware County’s Anniston Grantham recorded a 37-40-77 finishing in a fourway tie for 10th. Also shooting 77 were Coffee’s Hannah Powell, Morgan County’s Bailey Mitchell and Carrollton’s Adeline Laney.

Annslee Kate Grantham (47-45-92) and Eevy Griffin (46-46-92) tied for 39th with Camden County’s Samantha Askins and Miley Hughes of Lowndes.

Lillie Livingston posted 48-49-97 to finish in a four-way tie for 49th. Also shooting 97 were Mackenzie Patterson of Northside-Columbus and Colquitt County’s Addyson Giddens and Blair Summerlin.

RICHMOND HILL — Tournament host Richmond Hill topped the nineteam field besting Lowndes by five shots.

The Lady Wildcats shot 236 with the Lady Vikings posting 241. The two programs were followed by Class 5A Glynn Academy (258), Class A DII Metter (275), Ware County (308), Class 5A South Effingham (313), Class 5A Brunswick (327), Class 5A Statesboro (342) and Coffee (366).

A trio of golfers tied for medalist honors with five-over-par rounds of 76 on the Par 71, 5,456-yard layout in the field of 36 players. Lowndes’ Catherine Odom tied with Richmond Hill’s duo of Alexa Mohler and Amanda Puchales. No information was provided on the playoff winner.

Kate Thomas led the Lady Gators with a round of 50-51-101 for a solo 18thplace finish. Griffin shot 52-51-103 finishing in a three-way tie for 19th with Statesboro’s Chloe Larson and South Effingham’s Miley Crawford.

Livingston finished with a 54-50-104 for a solo 22nd position. Lily Peters posted 57-61-118 tying for 27th with Brunswick’s Aubree Walker.

Lady Gators ............................126 Camden County.......................137 KINGSLAND — Anniston Grantham shot a season-best one-under-par score of 35 to lead Ware County past the Lady Wildcats.

Grantham had three birdies in her round to capture low medalist honors. Camden County was led by Georgia Blount’s 38.

The Lady Gators received a 45 from Thomas and a 46 from Griffin for the team score. Annslee Kate Grantham posted a 48.

Also participating were Livingston with a 47, Onnie Peacock a 51, Peters a 55 and Ryleigh Simpson a 56.
