Greg O’Driscoll has joined The Blackshear Times as a staff writer.
Born in Jacksonville, FL, O’Driscoll, 47, has lived in Blackshear for over 15 years. During that time, he was a familiar face at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Waycross, where he worked as a department manager.
Greg and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of three children; Gwen (11), Maggie (7) and Liam (4). He credits his children for his recent change of profession.
“I never went to college as a kid, and had always wanted to be a writer,” O’Driscoll explains, “I wanted my kids to see it’s never too late to follow your dreams.”
A recent graduate with honors from South Georgia State College, O’Driscoll earned his bachelor’s in professional, business and technical writing.
During his internship with The Waycross Journal-Herald, he discovered a passion for newspaper work. “It must be in my blood. My grandfather was a newspaper man in Pennsylvania.”
O’Driscoll enjoys writing, drawing, music and movies. He also collects comics, vinyl records and vintage paperbacks. One of his favorite books is Warlord of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan.
Publisher Matt Gardner added, “We are excited to have Greg join us. I have already seen his passion for covering the news and I know he will be a great addition to our staff.”
O’Driscoll will cover city council meetings, local events, human interest stories and other assignments. He can be reached at The Times at 912-449-6693 or by email at [email protected].
