WAYCROSS — Pierce County Middle School’s Lady Bears and Bears track teams finished third and fifth respectively here at the two-day, eight-team Southeast Georgia Middle School Conference track meets held on the Ware County High School campus.
Long County Middle School sweep the titles ending runs by Appling County Middle School’s Lady Rams and Rams.
The Lady Wildcats captured their first title Monday, March 24 in the
30-year history of the conference finals unseating four-time defending champion Appling County Middle School. Long Middle finished with 128 points with the Lady Rams totaling
114 points.
Two-time runner-up Pierce County Middle School was third with 50 points. The Lady Bears were followed by Ware County Middle School (49), Bethune Middle School (47), Waycross Middle School
(46), Brantley County Middle School (18) and Bacon County Middle School (16).
Allie Anderson and Benley James logged the best finishes for the Lady Bears placing second. Anderson was runner-up in both the
800 meters (2:45.07) and
1,600m (6:20.54) events. James finished second in the discus (64’4.5”).
Long Middle’s boys won their second championship trophy in four years Tuesday, March 25 bookending the wins around two-time defending champion Appling Middle. The Wildcats piled up 151 points in running away from the field.
Long Middle was followed by Bethune Middle
(107), Brantley Middle (48), Waycross Middle (46), Pierce Middle (45), Ware Middle (40), two-time defending champ Appling Middle (28) and Bacon Middle (3).
Dathan Thornton posted the Bears’ top individual effort finishing second in the discus (121’3”).
