Gwenda Lea Hewett Nettles

WAYCROSS — Mrs. Gwenda Lea Hewett Nettles, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at her residence in Waycross following an extended illness.

Mrs. Nettles was born in Homerville to the late James David Hewett and Maggie Gertrude Strickland Hewett. She was a homemaker most of her life but had worked with Sears for a number of years.

Mrs. Nettles was a member of Zenith Baptist Church in Manor. It was often said her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. There was nothing more important than taking care of them. She was a devout christian who deeply loved her husband, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nettles was also preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Robert Paul Douglas and Raphaella Thomas; and a brother, Samuel Jacque Hewett.

She is survived by her husband, Earley C. “Earl” Nettles, Jr. of Waycross; eight children, Lea Clark (Ricky) of Waycross, Paula “Sue” Pittman (Rusty) of Waycross, Kim

Worth, Texas, Tonya Buttice of Savannah, Earley C. “Neal” Nettles III of Brunswick and Darrin Nettles (Violy) of Brunswick; 17 grandchildren, Rick Clark (Patty), Chris Clark (Jessica), Jay Thomas (Ashley), Heather Hill, Todd Hickox, Chasity Davis (Andy), Karly Douglas (Sammy), Abbey Anderson (Nate), Davis Anderson, Michelle Mercado (Daniel), Jared Kirby, Logan Nettles, Skylar Nettles (Gloria), Blake Nettles, Kyle Nettles, Madison Buttice and Mason Morello; 29 great grandchildren; five greatgreat grandchildren; brother, Randy Hewett (Nancy); and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Zenith Baptist Church in Manor.

Burial will follow at Mt. Green Cemetery in Millwood.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501 or to the Zenith Baptist Church Building Fund, 3634 Manor Millwood Rd. S. Manor, GA 31550.

Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
