Herons third at Southeast Ga. Middle School track meet
WAYCROSS — Brantley County Middle School’s Grant Middleton and Jacob Highsmith each won their respective events here in the two-day, eight-team Southeast Georgia Middle School Conference track meets held on the Ware County High School campus.
Middleton finished first Tuesday, March 25 in the
1,600-meter run with a time of 5:21.22. Highsmith topped the field in the discus with a throw of 144’9”.
Jaylynn Evans had the Lady Herons’ best finish placing fourth in both the 800 meters (2:56.93) and 1,600m runs (6:27.84).
The victories helped the Herons to a third-place showing with 48 points. Long County Middle School won its second the boys’ title in four years unseating two-time defending champion Appling County Middle School.
The Wildcats piled up 151 points in running away from the field. They were by Bethune Middle School
(107), Brantley Middle (48), Waycross Middle School
(46), Pierce County Middle School (45), Ware County Middle School (40), Appling Middle (28) and Bacon Middle (3).
Long Middle’s Lady Wildcats made it clean sweep after winning their first title Monday, March 24 in the
30-year history of the conference finals. The Ludowici middle school ended Appling Middle’s four-year domination.
Long Middle finished with 128 points with the Lady Rams totaling 114 points. Two-time runnerup Pierce County Middle School was third with 50 points. The Lady Bears were followed by Ware Middle (49), Bethune Middle (47), Waycross Middle (46), Brantley County Middle (18) and Bacon Middle (16).
