Rufus A. B. Walker, 85, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday morning, March 30, 2025, at Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Blackshear November 26, 1939, he lived in Pierce County all his life. He was a 1957 graduate of Patterson High School and went on to attend ABAC in Tifton. He came home from school and went straight to work on the family farm with his dad. He would later go to work as a welder for GATX but still farmed on the side. He had a passion for airplanes, sailboats and motorcycles and was even fortunate enough to have visited every state in the United States on his motorcycle. He also loved camping and enjoyed taking his family on educational camping trips to historical sites teaching them about our country’s history. He loved to watch westerns no matter how many times he had seen them. He was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late John Allen Walker and Nola Mae Tuten Walker Mikell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Chancey Walker; his son, Don Lamar Walker; his brother, John Allen Walker Jr. and two sisters, June Warren and Carley Horne.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Allen Nicholls, Front Royal, VA and Suzanne and Billy Dasher, Midway; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Walker of Walaska; two sisters, Dianne Denton, Blackshear and Joyce Turner, Patterson; two grandchildren, Morgan Walker and Alexis Floyd and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, from the Offerman Cemetery with the Rev. James Lightsey officiating.
The family will visit with guests shortly before and immediately after the service at the cemetery.
