Schedule defined for city’s April 4-5 festival

The 21st annual Swampfest celebration will be staged in downtown Waycross Friday-Saturday, April 4-5.

The city’s premier festival begins at 5 p.m., April 4 and resumes at 9 a.m. April 5 for a full day and night of activities concluding with a fireworks show around 10:15 p.m.

In between the opening Friday and the fireworks display will be plenty of music, food and fun for all ages.

There will be a Swampfest Kickoff party at 5 p.m., Friday, March 28 at Doughboy Park and Mary Street in downtown. There will be live entertainment, food trucks and Swampfest merchandise available for purchase.

Swamfest generally draws nearly 150 vendors offering a variety of handmade items, merchandise, clothing, jewelry, crafts and a host of food and beverages.

Other activities will include a car show, multiple eating and drinking contests, a host of inflatables and other activities as well as a petting zoo and face painting for the children.

There will be live entertainment both days beginning at 6 p.m. Friday with the Derrick Flowers Band followed at 8 p.m. by the beach sound of the Swingin’ Medallions.

Musical guests Saturday will be Dakota Duo at 10 a.m., The Rider Band at noon, the McKnight Foundation at 5 p.m. the ever-popular Tams at 6:30 p.m. The Royals close the entertainment at

8:30 leading to the fireworks.

April 4

5 p.m.: Festival opens.

5 p.m.: Satilla Advocacy Services presentation.

6 p.m.: Derrick Flowers Band, live main stage.

8 p.m.: Swingin’ Medallions, live main stage.

10:30: Swampfest closes. April 5

9 a.m.: Festival opens.

9 a.m.: Car show registration. 9:30: Steps for Spectrum walk. 10 a.m.: Dakota Duo, live main stage.

11 a.m.: Georgia Line Dancers, live main stage.

11 a.m.: Car show judging. Noon: The Rider Band, live main stage.

1:30: Swampfest contests (Cocacola chug, DQ Dilly Bar, Hunt Brothers pizza, Chick-Fil-A sandwich, sausage dog).

3 p.m.: Car Show awards, Parker Street stage.

4:30: Miss Swampfest Pageant recognitions, main stage.

5 p.m.: The McKnight Foundation, live main stage.

6:30 p.m.: The Tams, live main stage.

8:30: The Royals, live main stage. 10:15: Fireworks show. 10:30: Festival closes.
