Roger Dale Baker

Roger Dale Baker, 72, of Blackshear, died Wednesday night, May 31, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, after an extended illness.  

He was born in Ware County to the late Mason T. Baker and Helen Ruth Strickland Baker.  He worked for CSX Transportation as a machinist for 42 years retiring in 2009.  He loved to play the guitar and sing, go fishing and was an avid NASCAR racing fan.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ira Walker.

Survivors include his wife Valerie Baker, Blackshear; his daughter, Edie Carter and her husband Alvin, Blackshear; a step-son, Ronnie Carter and his wife Dana, Blackshear; four grandchildren, Lena Mixon and her husband Bryce, Gavin Carter, Lily Carter and Grayson Carter; one great-granddaughter, Mayleigh Mixon; six brother and sisters, Linda Walker and Jerald Baker, both of Waycross, Patricia Corbitt and her husband Leon,Blackshear, Darlene Byrne and her husband David, Jackson, Diane Strickland, Blackshear, Rose Johns and her husband Otis, Hickox and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, from the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Ware County.
