NPD makes arrests of two after traffic stop

Special to The Beacon NAHUNTA — A man and woman were arrested Sunday following a traffic stop and each charged with Possession of Methamphetamine.

Charles Mandon Highsmith, 47, of Nahunta and Danielle Nichole Capps were each arrested without incident and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Capps was also charged with Possession of Drug-Related Objects.

A Nahunta Police Department Crime Suppress ion Intelligence Unit (CSIU) K 9 officer conducted a traffic stop March 23 in the Circle K parking lot for a traffic violation at approximately 5:28 p.m.

During the course of the stop, both the driver and passenger exhibited behavior consistent with criminal activity, based on the officer’s training and experience. The officer requested consent to search the vehicle, which the driver denied.

Acting on articulable reasonable suspicion, the officer deployed K-9 Quick for a free-air sniff of the vehicle. K-9 Quick gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics.
