Jacob Lloye Davis Jr., believed to be Pierce County's oldest resident, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 103.
Davis is a former Pierce County Citizen of the Year and Farmer of the Year and has been recognized by both Pierce and Ware County Veterans organizations for his service in World War II. He was a member and former deacon of Beulah Baptist Church and a former member of the Pierce County Board of Education.

Davis was always quick to point out the reason for his longevity.
“I just trust in the Lord. I always have,” he said.
Born in Pierce County October 6, 1921, he was one of 10 children born to Jacob Lloye Sr. and Carrie James Davis. He graduated from high school in Pierce County and went on to earn his welding degree and farmed until he was drafted into service in World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid for the duration of the war and was discharged in 1945.
He returned to Pierce County and met and married the love of his life, Janelle Henderson Davis. The Davises have been married for 78 years. They have five children, Jay, Jerry, June, Joy and Jane; 11 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He farmed throughout his life including growing tobacco, soybeans and corn. He eventually retired only to start a huge pecan orchard which he was still running prior to his death.
Funeral arrangements were pending at press time, but will be with Pearson- Dial Funeral Home of Blackshear.
