Local farmers hold ‘Blessing of the Crops’ to ask God for bountiful harvest in 2025
Farmers and friends came together at Alabaha Free Will Baptist Church to share their prayers and hope for a bountiful harvest in 2025 at the inaugural “Blessing of the Crops”, sponsored by Ag South Crop Insurance.
Darcy Davis, crop insurance agent for AgSouth Farm Credit, said she got the idea from a similar gathering in Bulloch County.
“The year 2024 was hard on farmers and it was laid on my heart to start something similar here in South Georgia. No agendas, no programs, no politics, just a moment for us all to gather together and give thanks for the opportunity to be stewards of the land and ask the Creator to pour out His blessings on our endeavors,” said Davis. “Praying over the crops has been around since Biblical times. I just think it is time to get back to that.”
Davis welcomed the group of about 40 farmers and community members. The Rev. Jason Long, pastor of Alabaha Free Will Baptist Church, led the group in prayer.

“I ask you, Lord, to be with us this farming season,” prayed Long. “I thank you, Father, that you have given us, in your sovereignty, to be the stewards of this good land.
“I don’t think it could have been more perfect. The weather was beautiful, the attendance was good, and I think everyone left there hopeful and optimistic for another year’s harvest.” said Davis. “I feel certain this will become a new tradition for South Georgia.”
After the prayer service, a hearty breakfast was served on the church grounds. Jim Waters and Michael Raulerson prepared the food for the breakfast.
