Midway Elementary digs into Ag Day

Midway Elementary digs into Ag Day
Brin Taylor is ready to work behind the wheel of a John Deere tractor.

Ag Day was celebrated last week at Midway Elementary School. Students got to enjoy six different activity centers where they could learn about different topics, including blueberries, sunflowers, chickens, cows and other livestock. Students even got to climb up for a farmer’s eye view from the seat of a John Deere tractor.

Students also received an activity book and learned about the important role agriculture plays in Georgia’s economy and some of the different crops and livestock grown in our community.

Members of the school Ag club assisted the teachers and presenters with the event.

Lauryn Edwards made sure CoCo the cow was on her best behavior for the students.
Melissa Folette holds up a goat kid so two human kids (l-r), Aubriana Henderson and Ava Slusher, can get a closer look.
RayLand Justice shows off her handsome, prancing pig Bronco.
Science teacher Kim Walter teaches about the life cycle of chickens in front of the Midway school chicken coop, begun with local donations and more recently expanded with grant money.
