Pierce County Middle School recently learned all about safety on the farm, roads and even waterways with a special Ag Safety Day, a cooperative event featuring presentations and hands on learning made possible by a corporate grant from AGCO of Duluth. First responders, a Department of Natural Resources technician, the local 4-H and others collaborated to present a variety of educational safety scenarios. Topics ranged from pesticide safety and how to use a fire extinguisher properly to the importance of biosecurity and sanitizing hands both before and after handling agricultural animals.

Weather cooperated for the most part, varying from drizzly to rainy to sunny and back again. Volunteers and presenters were fed a special meal of fried chicken, mac and cheese, beans, sweet tea and lemonade.
