Joseph Samuel “Sammy” Lee, 75, of Bristol, passed away Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
Born in Offerman May 26, 1948, he had lived all of his life in Pierce and Appling Counties. He served in the U.S. Army and then returned home to go to work for CSX Railroad, from which he retired after many years as a conductor. He liked riding his tractor and had a great love for all of his veteran friends.
He was the son of the late Burie Guard and Doris Mildred Walker Lee. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Johns and Lorene Davis; all three of his brothers, Archie Porter Lee, Raymond Lee and Robert Lee and his brother-in-law, Duane Douglas Halvorson.
Survivors include his sister, Annie Bell Halvorson, Blackshear; special nephews, Jerald (Suzanne) Lee and Billy Joe Lee, all of Jesup; a special friend, Edsel Lee, Bristol and several other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Bunce officiating.
Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery with military honors.
Employees of Hospice of South Georgia are kindly requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to please meet at the funeral home chapel by 10:30 a.m. Friday.
