ATLANTA — Waycross Mayor Dr. Michael-Angelo James recently served as Pastor of the Day for the Georgia House of Representatives in the body’s chambers in the state capitol.

The distinguished honor was bestowed upon Mayor James by Majority Whip Representative James Burchett (R-Millwood) and authorized by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington).

Mayor James addressed the Georgia House of Representatives with a heartfelt devotion, prayer, and led the Pledge of Allegiance on the 29th day of the current legislative session. In his address, he expressed gratitude for the dedication of the honorable members of the House, emphasizing the importance of diligence, devotion, and dedication in their service.

Dr. James, who’s in his second term as Mayor of Waycross, shared a poignant message inspired by Colossians 3: 23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

He highlighted the essence of their service through three powerful examples: • Diligence: The story of a farmer who tirelessly works the field, knowing the harvest will sustain the community;

Devotion: A teacher who spends extra hours ensuring every student understands, showing commitment beyond duty;

Dedication: A medical researcher persistently searching for a cure, driven by a vision of a healthier future.

Dr. James, Pastor of Emmanuel's International Cathedral of the Holy Spirit for more than three decades, likened the work of the House of Representatives to the examples.

“Much like the diligent farmer, our House of Representatives labors to cultivate policies that nourish our state,” the Bishop said. “With the devotion of a dedicated teacher, they craft laws that enlighten and uplift. And with a commitment akin to a medical researcher, they tirelessly pursue the health and prosperity of all Georgians.”

Mayor James concluded his address with a prayer, seeking guidance and strength for the members as they carry out their duties with diligence, devotion, and dedication.

He prayed for a legacy of compassion, integrity, and progress, ensuring future generations look upon their work with pride and hope.

The House’s leaders said they appreciated Mayor James’s inspiring words and leadership, reflecting the values and commitment of the community he serves.
