Lady Gators third at Lee County tourney

ALBANY — Ware County’s Lady Gator golf team finished third here Monday in the 20th annual Lee County Lady Trojan Invitational played at River Pointe Golf Club.

The Lady Gators finished 24 shots off the pace of Class 6A Lowndes in the March 10 12-team event. The Lady Vikings posted a 246 team score in beating runner-up Class 6A Tift County (252) by six shots.

Ware County shot 270. The Lady Gators were followed by Class A DI Jeff Davis (281) and Class 5A Houston County (282) to round out the Top 5.

Rounding out the field were Class A DI Worth County (291), Lowndes II (294), Class 5A tournament host Lee County (299), Class 1A DII Seminole County (299), Class 6A Colquitt County (299), Class 3A Bainbridge (306) and Class 5A Thomas County Central (311). Class 1A DII Schley County had two players who each shot 105 playing as individuals.

Catherine Odom of Lowndes was the lone player to shoot a sub-80 round in the cool, wet and blustery conditions. Odom six birdies in her round of 38-33-71 finishing one-under par. Her score was 11 shots better than the runner-up score of 82.

Anniston Grantham led the Lady Gators with a round of 45-42-87 including a birdie. She finished in a threeway tie with Tift County’s Marlee Veazey and Mattie Hendrix.

Anslee Grantham followed her sister with a 45-45-90 to tie Kayla Lee of Lowndes for 12th.

Kate Thomas finished 18th after carding a 48-45-93. Eevy Griffin was one spot back after posting 50-45-95 tying Colquitt County’s Mei Carroll for 19th place.

The Lady Gators played Tuesday, March 18 in the Lady Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Tift County at the Spring Hill Country Club.
