ALBANY — Ware County’s golfing Gators won their second straight tournament here Monday in the 20th annual Lee County Trojan Invitational played at River Pointe Golf Club.

Trace Carter made it three individual victories in four tournaments carding a three-under-par round of 69 to win by eight shots in the 62-player field in cold, blustery and wet conditions March 10.

The Gators, who won the Bacon County Byron Ray Invitational March 3, shot 317 in the March 10 12-team tournament. Class 6A Tift County was second with a 322 score with Class 5A host Lee County third with a 330.

Following the Trojans were Class A DI Worth County (340), Class 5A Thomas County Central (341), Class A DI Jeff Davis (342), Lee County II (343), Class A DII Seminole County (350), Class 5A Houston County (356), Class A DII Schley County (361), Class 3A Bainbridge (373) and Class 6A Valdosta (388).

Carter’s round (31-28-69) included four birdies and an eagle. He started his round birdie-birdie-eagle.

His performance came on the heels of a fourunder- par 68 in Alma at Blueberry Plantation Golf & Country Club and a seven-under-par 65 at the February 15 Camden Classic. He posted a twounder- par round of 70 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth at 1902 Cadet Cup hosted February 24 by Benedictine at the Landings Club in Savannah.

Through four 18-hole tournaments and a ninehold match, Carter is 19under par with an 18-hole stroke average of fourunder-par 68.

Eli Taft shot 40-37-77 with a birdie on each nine to finish in a tie for second with Worth County’s Gamble Montgomery. Taft joined Carter on the alltournament team.

Asher Dean carded a 42-41-83 with three birdies to tie Tift County’s Cooper Pate for 15th.

Jackson Ray posted a 44-44-88 to finish in a three-way tie with Cayden Webb of Jeff Davis and Jhett Wilson of Worth County.

Brody Martin finished with a 48-43-91 to place in the six-way tie for 38th. He was joined by Lee County’s John Thomas McNeal and Davis Goodin, Schley County’s Eli Grace, Thomas County Central’s Jakob Burnett and Houston County’s Cash Blasche.

Ware County played Monday, March 17 in the Viking Classic hosted by Lowndes High at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
