Viking Invitation championship part of Herons win streak

Brantley County’s Herons captured the Lowndes Viking Invitational stretching their season- best winning streak to seven matches.

The championship followed a pair of 5-0 wins in Region 1-A action. The Herons (15-2 overall, 5-0 region) knocked off Worth County in Sylvester Tuesday, March 4. They beat visiting Berrien Thursday, March 6.

BCHS posted a 4-0 victory against Colquitt County in the first round of the Viking Invitation Friday, March 7. The Herons followed with a 31 win Saturday over Camden County and beat Bleckley County 3-2 in the championship match.

Owen Spradley, Jayce Chapman and Evan Payne all posted 3-0 marks at the tourney. Miles Florey fin-ished 2-0 and Dalton Howell 1-0.

Rohan Davis notched a 5-2 mark, Patrick O’Quinn finished 4-2 and Tucker O’Quinn was 2-1.

Brantley County knocked off visiting Pierce County 4-1 Tuesday, March 11. The Herons followed with a 5-0 region victory Thursday, March 13 at Fitzgerald.

BCHS played host to Bacon County Tuesday, March 18 on Senior Recognition day. The Herons close out the regular season Wednesday, March 26 traveling to Valdosta.

Brantley County will host a “Train with the Champs” camp Tuesday, March 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., for K-5 students.

SYLVESTER — The Herons had little trouble in making quick work of Worth County losing just six games.

Davis posted a 6-0, 6-1 victoy over Clay Reynolds at No. 1 singles. Chapman had the closest match at No. 2 in beating Jay Patel 6-4, 6-0. Patrick O’Quinn blanked Kishan Patel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Tucker O’Quinn and Spradley recorded a 6-1, 6-0 decision over William Crowe and Aiden Sauter. The No. 2 duo of Payne and Jett Florey blanked Camden Stalvey and Terry Redding 6-0, 6-0.

In jayvee singles action, Howell notched an 8-6 win while Peyton Perez on 8-2. The doubles team of Yog Patel and Ryan Saunders doubled up their foe

CANEY BAY — Brantley County dominated the Rebels losing just five games over five matches.

Patrick O’Quinn notched a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Conner Fender. Davis blanked Rowan Mathis 60, 6-0 at No. 2 while Chapman posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Eli Soeffner.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Tucker O’Quinn and Spradley blanked Andrew Flowers and Kaleb Farris 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Payne and Miles Florey rolled 6-1, 6-1 over Stoney Cooper and Cayden Echols.

Howell blanked Michael Washburn 60 in a jayvee match.

CANEY BAY — BCHS won two of the three singles matches and secured the victory with a sweep of the doubles matches against the Bears.

Davis needed a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker to outlast J.C. Nimmer 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles. Patrick O’Quinn downed Jeb Bradley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Chapman fell 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) in a tight match with Aaden Carlson at No. 3.

Tucker O’Quinn and Spradley knocked off the team of Kellon Roberts and Grayson Rogers 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Payne and Florey prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2 over Colby Coats and Rhett Godwin.

FITZGERALD — The Herons overpowered Fitzgerald dropping just one game.

Davis blanked Weston House 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 with Patrick O’Quinn following suit at No. 2 against Jesse Tucker. Spradley posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Ellis Dix.

Both doubles matches ended 6-0, 6-0. Tucker O’Quinn and Chapman beat Carter Snowden and Jacoby Grace at No. 1 while the No. 2 duo of Payne and Florey rolled past Bryaden Tucker and Landon McCard.
