ATLANTA — Pierce County’s 2024 Class AA state champion Lady Bears’ golf team was recognized by District 8 State Senator Russ Goodman last week.
Goodman, of Clinch County, invited the team to the state capitol Monday, March 10 to present a Senate resolution commending the Lady Bears as state champions.
The team was also Recognized in the House by Representatives James Burchett (District 176) of Ware County and Steven Meeks (District 178) of Wayne County.
“Looking back at last year’s goal sheets, going to the state capitol was not on the list,” said PCHS head coach Stuart Stipe. “We are thankful to our local representatives for making this trip possible. Our day at the State Capitol was a lifelong memory for these Lady Bears, their parents and us coaches. trip to Atlanta was nothing short of amazing.”
Players, coaches and parents were given a brief government lesson on “How a bill becomes a law” during Monday’s first day back in session after “cross-over day.”
“Opportunities such as these are only possible with an administration that supports extra-curricular activities,” added Stipe. “We don’t every want to take these days for granted.”
The three-time defending state champion Lady Bears were scheduled to play Saturday, March 15 in the Maple Ridge Junior Classic in Columbus. The event was canceled due to impending weather moving in.
PCHS was scheduled to play Tuesday, March 18 at Ocean Forest Golf Club on St. Simons Island against Frederica Academy.
The Lady Bears are set to play in the Monday, March 24 in the Lady Viking Classic hosted by Lowndes High at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
