PCHS netters swept in non-region matchup with Brantley

Pierce County’s tennis teams head into the final week of the regular season after splitting with Brantley County and Cook.

The Lady Bears (10-4 overall, 4-1 Region 3-AA) lost a non-region matchup in Caney Bay falling 4-1 Tuesday, March 11 to the Lady Herons. The match results were provided by Brantley County.

PCHS followed with its fourth 5-0 win in region action beating the visiting Lady Hornets Thursday, March 13. No report was filed.

The Lady Bears will enter the region tournament as the No. 2 seed behind Appling County. The Lady Pirates prevailed 3-2 in the lone meeting March 4.

The Bears (10-4, 5-0) fell at Brantley County 4-1. They came back with their fourth 5-0 win in region matches in beating Cook.

PCHS earned the top spot for the region tournament. The Bears closest match was a 3-2 home win over Appling County.

The last regular season match before the region tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 20 at Jeff Davis. The first two rounds of the region tourney are to be completed by Friday, March 28.

CANEY BAY — A sweep of the singles competition and a split in doubles gave the Lady Herons the win in a tightly contested match.

BCHS’s Brooklyn Wildes posted a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Mattie Lee at No. 1 singles, Rylee Strickland turned back M.K. Weatherington 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Haley Jane Smith outlasted Jasmine Sergent 7-6 (72), 6-3 at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Summer Colley and Bri Crews survived 7-5, 6-3 against Eva Horne and Riley Chambliss. PCHS’s No. 2 team of Addie Brown and E.K. Higginson downed Harlee Driggers and Savannah Carroll 6-2, 6-2.

CANEY BAY — BCHS won two of the three singles matches and secured the victory with a sweep of the doubles matches against the Bears.

Aaden Carlson notched Pierce County’s lone win outlasting Jayce Chapman 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) in a tight match at No. 3 singles. The Herons’ Rohan Davis needed a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker to outlast J.C. Nimmer 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles. Patrick O’Quinn downed Jeb Bradley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Tucker O’Quinn and Owen Spradley knocked off the team of Kellon Roberts and Grayson Rogers 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Evan Payne and Jett Florey prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2 over Colby Coats and Rhett Godwin.
