Memorial Satilla Health (MSH) celebrated National Resident’s Day by recognizing six resident physicians currently training at the facility.
Dr. Mary Catherine Stewart, from Blackshear, was one of the residents recognized. Others included Dr. Darnelle Ambo, Dr. Blessy George, Dr. Madhavi Madupuri, Dr. Kimberly Mathurin and Dr. Xiang You.
Residents contract with MSH for two years of training in Family Medicine. Residency is a key component of graduate medical training, offering an in-depth exposure to medical practice. The Gold Humanism Honor Society launched “Thank a Resident Day” in 2018, for programs nationwide to show their gratitude and appreciation for residents.
Memorial Satilla has been training Family Medicine residents since the program was accredited in 1998. As of June 2024, the program has graduated 45 resident physicians. Several of these physicians continue to practice in Waycross and nearby communities. 71% percent of the program’s graduates remain in practice in Georgia.
“We are grateful these physicians have chosen a career in Family Medicine, demonstrating their desire to serve the needs of others and provide compassion and continuity of care. By selecting MSH for their training site, our local physicians are given the opportunity to positively impact the future of medicine,” says Caitlyn Smith, residency program coordinator.
