Edward Nash Williams, 95, of Gainesville, formerly of Blackshear, passed away peacefully Friday, March 7, 2025, at Lanier Village Estates.
Born October 17, 1929, in Pierce County, he was the son of the late Edward Nash Williams and Pearl Bennett. He was married to Jessie Pearl Kirkland of Waycross for 69 years until her passing in November, 2023. After attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, he spent six years as a merchant seaman before serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve, where he rose to the rank of Captain and commanded six reserve units. Following his military service, he earned a degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Georgia and went on to a distinguished 25-year career with Georgia Power, where he held various leadership roles, including developing the Tomorrow’s Leaders community leadership program. He later served as Executive Director of the Southeast Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission.
He was a devoted husband, father, and Opa who cherished time with his family, especially at his second home on Lake Burton in the North Georgia mountains. There, he found peace and joy, surrounded by the beauty of nature. An avid woodworker, fisherman, and lifelong learner, he had a passion for reading and the pursuit of knowledge.
Survivors include his four children: Pam Robinson, Dawsonville, Eddie Williams (Lynn), Covington, Paula Jones, Clayton and Patty Blair (Mark), Cumming; seven grandchildren: Matthew Robinson (Ola), Alex Robinson, Will Robinson, Dylan Jones (Hannah), Warren Jones, Tatyana Blair and Luke Blair and two great-granddaughters: Gaia Robinson and Addison Jones.
His faith in God was a guiding presence throughout his life. He often expressed his gratitude with his favorite saying, “I know where my blessings come from.” While we deeply mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in his Heavenly Home. His love, wisdom and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
