Chief James Daniel “Danny” Christmas, 52, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
He was born in Jacksonville, FL to James Thelbert “Jimmy” ChristmasJr. and Betty Ann David Christmas. He was currently employed as the Chief of the Ware County Schools Police Department. He had formerly been employed with the Ware County Sheriff’s Department and the Corrections Corporation of America.
He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, J.T. and Kathryn Christmas; maternal grandmother, Jewel Cameron and a special mother-in-law, Linda Lightsey.
Survivors include his wife, Angel Christmas, Blackshear; four children, Amber Slagle (Logan), Jamie Christmas, Shilon Christmas and Jett Christmas; step-daughters, Morgan Sanders and Macie Matthews; two grandchildren, Hudson Slagle and Ellie Mae Slagle; his parents, Jimmy and Betty Christmas; a sister, Joy Christmas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Brenda Tackett; brother-in-law, Michael Bob Tackett; sister-in-law, Amy Tackett; four nephews, Tim Varnadore (Ciara), Colton Tackett, Cason Tackett, and Elijah Tackett and a niece, Leah Varnadore (John).
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, from the Ware County High School Performing Arts Center.
Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Ware County.
The Ware County Schools Police Department, Ware County Sheriff's Department, and any other First Responders he worked alongside through the years are asked to meet at the Performing Arts Center by 10:40 a.m. Saturday to serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Ware County Board of Education % SRO Scholarship Fund, 1301 Bailey St., Waycross, GA 31501.
