
James Fleming Walker Jr., 56, of Lorton, VA, passed away early Monday morning, March 10, 2025, at his residence.
Born April 22, 1968 in Savannah, he grew up in Leesburg and Fayetteville, graduating from Fayette County High School in 1986. After graduation, he entered the U. S. Army, serving eight years active duty, followed by six years in the reserves. He had one foreign deployment to Seoul, South Korea in 1990, and finished his military career in Washington, DC, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the Army, he worked as a contractor within the information technology field, most recently with CACI International, Inc. as an infrastructure/systems administration systems engineering manager. He also continued his education to study computer information systems at Strayer University.
He met the love of his life, Teri, on a blind date and a year later they were married January 28, 1989, in Romulus, NY. They made their home in Ithaca, NY prior to his deployment, then purchased their first home in Alexandria, VA. In 2003, they relocated to their current home in Lorton, VA.
A true patriot, he loved his country and volunteered in his community in many different capacities.
He enjoyed target shooting, do-it-yourself projects and especially decorating their home for Halloween every year. He loved spending time with family and friends, which included traveling all around the United States and cruising to Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Alaska. He also enjoyed annual trips to Myrtle Beach, but once he became a grandfather, his favorite trips were to spend time with his very special girl, Scarlett, who was truly the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfred D. and Myrtle Bowen Powers, Blackshear; his paternal grandparents, James Barney Walker and Midred Brewton Walker Dowling, Blackshear; an uncle, Mark A. Walker; an aunt, Mary Nell Powers Wheeler and his in-laws, Edward and Joan Lake Wilcox Deugaw and Kathleen Deugaw.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Theresa “Teri” Jayne Wilcox Walker, Lorton, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, U.S. Air Force Captain Devin James and Heather Genung Walker of Hill Air Force Base, Utah; his parents, James Fleming and Sue Ann Powers Walker, Blackshear; his sister and her husband, Elan and Casey Daughtry, Marietta; a granddaughter, who brought him immense joy, Scarlett Anne Walker; a niece, Addison Daughtry; other local family in the Blackshear/Waycross area: uncles, Marvin D. Powers, Blackshear and Paul B. (Shan) Walker, Waycross; aunts, Margie Powers Wallace, Elaine Powers (Russell) Popham, all of Blackshear and Gail Walker, Douglas; sisters-in-law, Nancy Wilcox Kelsey, of Boonville, NY, Mary Deugaw (Christopher) Sanchez, of Massena, NY; brother-in-law, David Wilcox, of Hillsdale, NY; a niece, Heather (Rob) Perry, Taberg, NY; a nephew, Daniel Wilcox, of Boonville, NY and many other friends and relatives.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fort Stewart Honor Guard.
Active pallbearers will be Casey Daughtry, Paul Hough, Russell Popham, Dan Popham, Raymond Walker and Jeremy Campbell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to dear friends, Paul and Dannielle Hough, Bill Abba and Dani Hinkley, and Robin and Larry Ellison for their love and support during his illness.
